“Lots of Work Going On” – Rodgers on Celtic’s January Transfer Plans

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that his squad will be bolstered before the January transfer window closes, with work ongoing behind the scenes to secure new signings.

Despite sitting comfortably 13 points clear of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership and enjoying a stellar season with just two defeats in all competitions, Rodgers remains eager to bring “extra freshness and competition” to his squad.

Any signings that are made in January will not be able to feature against Young Boys, although there don’t seem to be any imminent signings, or Aston Villa.

UEFA allow new additions to be registered in February if the Bhoys make the knockout stage.

Speaking about the club’s transfer plans, Rodgers explained: [Celtic TV]

“There’s been lots of work going on for a number of months. As you can imagine, it’s never as simple when you actually then get to the point of getting the player that you want because there’s various reasons why his club would want to maybe keep them. But I’m fairly confident by the end, we can add that extra freshness and competition to the squad.”

Celtic invested heavily in the summer, bringing in big money signings such as  Arne Engels, Adam Idah and Auston Trusty, who have all played roles in maintaining the club’s domestic dominance.

However, Rodgers believes there is still room to improve, with the manager and his recruitment team working hard to identify players who can make an impact in the second half of the season.

Last season, Celtic brought Adam Idah in on loan and Nicolas Kuhn in on a permanent deal. Both signings turned out to be great additions to the squad

While Rodgers didn’t specify the positions being targeted, Celtic are thought to be targeting the wings and left-back positions, with Kieran Tierney closing in on a Celtic return.
