Brendan Rodgers Makes “Open and Honest” Vow

Brendan Rodgers has vowed to be “open and honest” with Alex Valle as speculation surrounding the young left-back’s future continues.

With Barcelona granting the green light for Valle to join Serie A side Como on loan, the decision now lies with Celtic, who retain the power to terminate his current loan agreement, CeltsAreHere understands.

Valle’s future at Celtic hinges on a few key factors, including the club’s pursuit of Kieran Tierney and their upcoming Champions League fixtures.

Valle has impressed during his time at Celtic Park, stepping up to Champions League football and showing flashes of his potential in domestic competition.

However, his game time has been limited, with Greg Taylor often preferred, and with Tierney reportedly close to agreeing on a pre-contract with the Hoops, Valle’s prospects could further diminish if Celtic secure an early return.

Barça have already approved the move to Como, but Celtic’s decision to let Valle leave will depend on the two critical factors of Tierney’s return and securing a place in the knockout stage for the round of 16 in the Champions League.

Speaking on the situation via Celtic TV, Rodgers emphasised the importance of clear communication with the 20-year-old: “He’s loved his time here. He’s become a Champions League player coming to Celtic and he’s in no rush to leave.

“However, if something was to change on that front, where he may not be getting the game time, then I have to be open and honest with him to let him understand this, but he knows absolutely the picture here.”

The manager’s comments suggest that Valle is still part of his plans for now, but the situation could change quickly if Tierney returns or other squad changes are made.

Valle, who joined Celtic on loan from Barcelona in the summer, has gained valuable experience during his short stint in Glasgow. The young Spaniard has shown he has the potential to thrive at a high level, but regular minutes are crucial for his development.

A move to Como, where former Barcelona star Cesc Fàbregas is the head coach, could offer Valle the chance to play more consistently in a competitive environment.

For now, Valle remains a Celtic player, and the club seems in no rush to make a decision before Tierney’s situation is resolved. With a busy schedule ahead, including a Scottish Cup tie against Kilmarnock and a vital Champions League clashes with Young Boys and Aston Villa, Valle may still have a part to play in the coming weeks.

However, should Tierney return and Valle’s game time diminish further, Rodgers has made it clear that he won’t stand in the player’s way if he decides to seek opportunities elsewhere.
