Royal Antwerp are reportedly open to selling the 22-year-old for a fee of around £5m, with the player holding 18 months left on his contract.

Balikwisha was on Celtic’s radar during the summer transfer window, but an untimely injury scuppered any potential deal. Now, with his availability confirmed, the Hoops could revisit their interest as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.

Brendan Rodgers is seeking to increase competition on the flanks, where Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda have been standout performers this season. With Luis Palma’s future at Celtic uncertain and James Forrest still sidelined, a new signing could be crucial to maintaining depth in a key area of the pitch.

Balikwisha, who has been a consistent performer for Antwerp, brings versatility and attacking flair.

According to Gazet van Antwerpen, Antwerp are “prepared to cooperate” with Balikwisha’s departure this month to allow sporting director Marc Overmars the freedom to reinvest in other areas of the squad. With just 18 months remaining on his deal, the Belgian Pro League side are keen to secure a transfer fee rather than risk losing the player for less in the future.

Despite reports linking Celtic with Balikwisha, it is understood that the Scottish Premiership champions have yet to make an official approach this window.
