Jota’s Brilliant Response to Celtic Transfer Question

FELIP JOTA spoke to the media and Celtic fan media on Tuesday ahead as he settles in as a Celtic player for the season.

The Lisbon born player joined the Hoops on deadline day and has been training at Lennoxtown during the international break.

Speaking to Celtic TV Jota was asked if he was keen to make the loan deal permanent in the summer.

The winger was clear, it’s all about this season and those conversations will be saved until the end of the campaign – hopefully when he has a couple of medals.

“Moving to Celtic is a big responsibility because of the size of the club.

“I want to be at the level they ask of me. It’s great to be here, there are plenty of good players and good coaches with refreshing ideas. Now I want to be on the pitch with the lads and do my thing.

“I’m here to help the team and the main achievement would be the title – I’m here to win that.

“Any coach or player at Celtic must be ready to win every game. They must be ready to win the title.

“Right now I think the most important thing is to play and to keep on learning and adapting to the Scottish game.

“I know the terms of my loan but I don’t want to think about that. I have to focus on my football, adapt to the game here and learn.

“Everything at the right time. First win games, title and then we speak about other things.

“Anything else will be discussed at the end of the season.”

There’s always the temptation to look to the end of the season with a loan player. Celtic fans will know by now, calling for loan deals to be made permanent before we have a full picture of the player and how they’ve settled in is never wise.

There was once calls for Oli Burke to be signed on a permanent deal after playing five or six games for the club. By the end of the season there weren’t many supporters clamouring to keep the Scottish international.

Even last season with Laxalt’s start with the club to where he ended up meant a permanent deal was never going to be on the cards.

Let’s hope we have a young hungry player in Jota who can help contribute to a successful season and as the player said, have that conversation at the end of the campaign.
