Celtic Youngster Targeting First-Team Spot

Celtic youngster Dane Murray is targetting more minutes with Ange Postecoglou’s first-team before the end of the campaign, as he looks to build on a strong season in 2021/22.

The young central defender was thrown into the deep end earlier in the season, playing his part in the Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland, which unfortunately saw the Hoops head out in extra time.

That was Murray’s last first-team involvement on the pitch, but he has still had an impressive season, playing regular football with the B side and has also been on the bench under Postecoglou in several European fixtures.

Speaking in an interview with Celtic TV, Murray showed his ambitions, stating his aim for more minutes in the first team before the end of the season, whilst also opening up on his debut for the club at 18-years old.

“It was crazy. The whole experience, I can remember it so vividly and so well.

“It was one of the greatest nights of my life.

“Being here, and then Bitton going off, and getting the chance to come on, it was a whirlwind of emotions.

“I can’t really explain it, to be honest.”

He continued: “My biggest ambition before the end of the season is to try and get more minutes for the first team.

“Hopefully, that comes.”

There are high hopes from those within the club for Murray, and he has shown exactly what that is the case this season under both Ange and Tommy McIntyre in the Celtic B side.

The next few years will be big for his development as a player, so it will be interesting to see whether that takes place at Celtic or potentially a loan deal next season so continue his journey into the Hoops first team.
