Former Hoops hero Peter Grant has put out a passionate plea to the Scottish football governing bodies to scrap the league cup.
Grant insists the cup competition is not beneficial to most of the clubs who participate and Scottish football at club and international level would benefit from its removal.
Grant told SunSport: “One thing I experienced not only at Alloa but at Dunfermline too, especially in the Covid season, is that we need to cut one of the cups out and let it flow and see how it goes.
“Is it worth it? (Having three cup competitions) I don’t think it is.
“Most of the teams that end up in the final of this are the big clubs anyway.
“By the time that the big money comes into it, the wee teams haven’t made any money from it because they’re out of the competition and have ran it at a loss.
“There’s so much going on and we don’t have the finances to support it and you can see it with the wages that some of the full-time clubs are offering in the lower leagues.
“A lot of them are offering near on part-time wages.

“That’s just my opinion though – the decision making isn’t up to me.
“If it was up to me though, I’d have definitely got rid of one of the cup competitions by now for sure.”
You try telling Celtic fans to scrap the competition after the success they’ve had over the past decades the bhoys won four consecutive trebles, something that wouldn’t have been possible if the League Cup was scrapped.

The Bhoys also enjoyed their day out in December when Kyogo scored a famous brace to set Ange and the bhoys on their way to more success.
If it becomes unmanageable or if serious arguments are put forward to bring the League Cup to an end – then of course we should look at it.
My initial thoughts quickly go to the removal of a treble bid, a feat the club looks to achieve every season.
We’re not in smaller clubs shoes and don’t know how they feel about the competition on the whole.
For Celtic fans, I think they’d like to keep things the way they are unless they’re provided good evidence that it would be beneficial not to participate.
