Callum McGregor Makes Bold Champions League Statement

CALLUM MCGREGOR isn’t showing away from the big guns in the Champions League, declaring he and many of the squad would like to draw Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The midfielder will lead Celtic out into the hot cauldron of the Champions league as captain this season and when it comes to challenges, Callum wants a big one!

Asked about stadiums he might want to play in when the bhoys enter the big European stage, Callum told Celtic TV:

“I’ve played at some pretty big ones but the one I haven’t played at is Real Madrid. I think everyone would probably join me in saying they want them in the group.

“Against Modric again, 12 months on, he ran the show that day (at the Euros), so I’ll try and get a bit closer to him. We’re looking forward to it whoever we get, it’s a big competition and a big test for us. We’ll be ready’

As challenges go, the Champions of Europe would be right up there!

Celtic and Champions League Opponents

We’ve waited a long time to get back into the competition and are there on merit after winning the SPFL title when many wrote us off.

Celtic fans will be happy to take on all comers but there is an excitement Real Madrid could be a destination. It’s a running joke that if Celtic and Barcelona are in the same competition it is an unwritten rule they must be paired together. Since the 2000s, Celtic have come up against the Spaniards in the group stage of the Champions League, the old UEFA Cup and the knockout phase of the Champions League.

We’d like to make the trip to Madrid!
