Sky Sports pundit and former Celtic forward Charlie Nicholas has stated that Celtic full-back Greg Taylor is ‘undroppable’ from Ange Postecoglou’s Hoops side at the moment, after his performances in recent weeks.
The Scotland internationalist has been in and out of the side at points this campaign, primarily due to injury at the beginning of the season, but also sat out a few games last month.
However, writing in his column for the Scottish Daily Express, Nicholas now believes that Taylor should be one of the first names on the teamsheet, after a good showing at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Sunday, going about his business quietly.
“Ange Postecoglou likes to rotate his Celtic team, but Greg Taylor is undroppable on current form. The left-back should be one of the first names on the teamsheet and deserves huge credit for the way he has dug in and proved people wrong in the last five or six weeks.
“Watching Taylor against Livingston last weekend, there was no big fuss about him. He did his job quietly and efficiently. Jota gets all the plaudits, but Taylor backs him up really well on the left flank.
“It wasn’t so long ago that Postecoglou preferred to play Josip Juranovic out of position instead of Taylor, but the Scot’s form has been absolutely first class of late. His recent displays merit more recognition.”
It is fair to say that Greg Taylor isn’t every Celtic fan’s cup of tea, coming under criticism at certain points during this season.
But, at the same time, the left-back has put in some impressive displays under Ange Postecoglou, with the stand out being last month’s Glasgow Derby win over Rangers at Celtic Park.
Clearly, Taylor is the best left-back currently at the club – whether that position is looked at in the summer is a different debate. So, it is likely we will see him remain in that position from now until the end of the season.
