Bayer Leverkusen Chief Makes Celtic Admission

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has revealed that his side has been keeping close tabs with Celtic for years as the two teams prepare to face off this evening.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Rolfes spoke about the signing of Jeremie Frimpong in January and admitted that Leverkusen were also after another Celtic star after keeping tabs on the Hoops progress in the last few years.

Rolfes said: “We have watched Celtic in the last years.

“We signed Jeremie Frimpong from Celtic; we were interested in a player from Celtic this summer.

“So we’ve followed Celtic a lot in the last years, and they had very good international games against AC Milan, for example. I watched that game.

“It’s a strong team; you could see that in their first game against Betis. That was a really interesting game.”

Going off recent rumours in the summer, it is likely that the player Rolfes is speaking about was former defender Kristoffer Ajer, who now plays his football down south with Brentford.

Although the Bundesliga side has been keeping tabs on us for the last few years, the side has changed dramatically even in the previous few months.

With the introduction of Ange Postecoglou, alongside the rebuilding job, which is currently still ongoing – there aren’t too many players left from years gone by in this new look Celtic side.

In tonight’s game, Ange and his squad face up against another tough opposition. But hopefully, we can see them pull through and pick up a significant result at Celtic Park once again.
