Scott Brown Decision & Centre-Back Exclusion; Immediate Starting XI Reaction

NEIL LENNON is a man under pressure and it shows with the starting XI he has chosen today to face Ross County.

At this stage in the competition, you would usually see one or two fresh faces come into the side, some fringe players getting a run out to see what they’re made of and give them some meaningful game time.

None of that today, the Celtic manager is using this game to experiment with 3-5-2 once against which takes Moi Elyounoussi out of the occasion and pairs Edouard and Ajeti.

Scott Brown starting is also a surprise to us. Given the captain has been well off the pace this season, it seems like the perfect time to give him a rest but Neil Lennon clearly doesn’t trust anyone else in the Brown role. Ismaila Soro has been rumoured to be isolating after getting married recently.

Bitton at the back in favour of Shane Duffy shows you where the managers head’s at with regards to his expensive loan signing. Rumours this week his deal could be cut short meaning Lennon will not rely on the defender going forward.

Callum McGregor getting a much needed rest is a bonus; the midfielder has played so much football over the past four years.

Barkas coming back in after Bain’s howler on Thursday is welcome but the Greek has a very impatient audience who are ready to slam him if he doesn’t catch a ball the right way.

Ultimately, even if Celtic win this game today, it won’t tell us very much about the team. A sustained run of form has to be attained before Celtic fans will give this side some props.
