Yuki Kobayashi has moved to Portuguese side Portimonense on a permanent transfer after a challenging period at Celtic where he failed to make a competitive appearance last season.

24-year-old Kobayashi, initially signed by Ange Postecoglou, came to Celtic with high expectations but struggled to find his place in the team.

The journalists in Japan were excited by the move, with the feeling that the defender could be a star in the national side, but it hasn’t worked out like that.

Despite interest from St Mirren this summer, Kobayashi has opted for a fresh start in Portugal, signing a four-year contract with Portimonense. [O Jogo]

This move marks a significant shift for the defender as he looks to rejuvenate his career in a new league and environment, leaving behind his unfulfilled tenure in Scotland. The hope is that this change of scenery will provide Kobayashi with the opportunity to showcase the skills that originally made him a sought-after talent at Celtic.
