Former Ibrox Boss turned media pundit Ally McCoist has jokingly called out Scott Brown for his comments on Hampden yesterday.

The former Scotland captain was scathing when it came to his opinion on where International football should be held, claiming Hampden is ‘one of the worst’ stadiums he has ever played in.

Brown has captained both Scotland and Celtic at the National stadium so can speak on good authority as can McCoist but the former Gers boss believes Broony is coming at it from an Edinburgh boy angle.

“That’s coming from an Edinburgh boy.” McCoist proclaimed on Talk Sport.

“How can he possibly say that, he’s at the wind up. He’s got to be at the wind-up, it’s one of the best I’ve played in.

Isn’t Ally coming at this from a strictly Glasgow point of view?

The former Scotland assistant went on to use the last game against the Auld Enemy as proof that Hampden can provide atmosphere.

“I’ll tell you right now, and he must have been on the park, the 2-2 game against England, the last 20 minutes, the atmosphere was as good as I ever, ever heard it.

“The atmosphere was fantastic. I get his argument that it’s not ideal.

“He must have been in a bad mood yesterday, was he?”

Many fans who regularly visit the stadium, whether it be for Internationals or semi and cup finals bemoan the stadium’s lack of atmosphere as well as the view itself.

If you are situated behind either goal then you’re going to have a hard time seeing the action with the large track between the stands and the field.

At this moment we agree with Broony in that the stadium is just not fit for purpose.

Furthermore, it should not be used for a Monday night game against Albania when the gate is so low. These games should be moved to smaller stadiums where atmosphere can be created.

Brown pointed out that Hearts and Hibs both could facilitate that while Celtic Park and Ibrox can manage the big games with larger demand.
