Scott Brown, former Celtic captain and now a football manager and pundit, recently reminisced about his playing days, particularly relishing the occasions when he would rile up Rangers’ players and supporters.
Brown’s tenure as Celtic’s leader saw him frequently clashing with Rangers’ key figures like Alfredo Morelos, Joey Barton and Ryan Kent. Even during his final playing days at Aberdeen, he maintained his role as a provocateur towards Rangers.
Discussing his career on The Tippy Tappy Football podcast with Tim Sherwood, Brown revisited these moments and also shared his thoughts on the future prospects of Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic. Sherwood, curious about the atmosphere at Celtic Park during significant European matches, prompted Brown to share his experiences.
Describing the ambiance of European football nights at Celtic Park, Brown highlighted the extraordinary support from the fans. He questioned Sherwood, “I don’t know if you have ever been up?” as he recounted the unique Champions League and Europa League experiences.

In a brilliant moment, when Sherwood mentioned he hadn’t attended the Old Firm, Brown playfully corrected him, referring to it as “The Glasgow derby,”.
The Glasgow Derby is what Celtic has officially called it for well over a decade. Even before the liquidation and formation of a newco in the lower leagues.
It’s a term that Celtic don’t have much time for but the papers and the Ibrox club love it, constantly throwing it out there. There was a game at Ibrox not so long ago when they plastered the phrase Old Firm everywhere.
This was after their fans demanded not to be associated with Celtic for a friendly in Australia because they weren’t getting top billing. Celtic won that game at Ibrox and the board with the phrase old firm on it was later seen in a bin outside the stadium.
Scott Brown knows his stuff and won plenty of Glasgow Derbies over the years.
