‘You Don’t Need to Do That’ – Rodgers Tells Celtic Star to Show Humility

BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed he’s had a quiet word with his striker after his celebration antics over the past few weeks.

Leigh Griffiths has scored three goals in three games after forcing his way back into first team striker contention and in doing so declared he’s number one against both Rosenborg and Kilmarnock.

However, while the Celtic manager admires Leigh’s passion and desire, he wants his striker to show more humility when he goes about his business in a Celtic jersey.

Griffiths had been a frustrated figure for some time for both club and county so when he came on late to score a European winner his emotions were always going to get the best of him.

Speaking about Leigh’s declaration and subsequent celebrations, the manager wants the focus to be on the team as a whole.

“I spoke to Leigh on it. He doesn’t need to do that.

“He didn’t do it the other night against St Johnstone. He had about four other things he did!

“I was watching him. When he scored he pointed to his shirt, he made a heart, he blew a kiss, and he gave me a hug — so he got them all in one go!

“I can understand the first time he did it, it was a bit of frustration really with everything — Celtic, Scotland, personal life.

“But no, it’s about humility. It’s not about one person. This team is very much about the collective and he knows that.”
