Celtic defeated Rangers by three goals to two last Saturday to open up a mammoth 12-point gap between themselves and their Glasgow rivals.
Goals from Kyogo and Jota helped the Hoops to victory as did the considerable home support who were on top form, as always.
One Celtic legend and former club captain, however, believes it would’ve made for a better atmosphere had there been a sizeable away support in addition to the raucous home fans.
Tom Boyd thinks Parkhead went eerily quiet when a Rangers goal went in on Saturday and that it would be better if there were fans of both sides to make constant noise (Football Scotland):
“We want to get back to the way it was with 7500 fans at each ground. The Celtic fans produced a great atmosphere at the weekend, but it’s not the same.
“There was some nervousness at times and you could sense it. It’s really strange when there is a goal against you, the place is silent.
“You don’t get any quiet periods when there are two sets of fans going back and forth. I don’t know how the situation gets resolved, but I just hope it’s not here to stay.”
Despite desires from some fans and ex-players alike to get back to the old derby away allocation, it doesn’t look likely at the minute.
Rangers initially started this commotion by allowing a minimal number of Hoops fans into Ibrox and then locking them out altogether.
Celtic obviously weren’t going to stand there and take this lying down therefore it is up to the Govan club to take some initiative and return to allowing Celtic have the full Broomloan end.
As we speak, this seems unlikely and in spite of Boyd’s wishes, we could be waiting a while to get back to previous away allocations in Glasgow derbies.
