Yokohama Assistant Departs Amidst Coaching Staff Talk

Yokohama F.Marinos assistant manager Arthur Papas has departed the Japanese club, where he spent time as Ange Postecoglou’s assistant.

The first-team coach has recently been linked with a move to Scotland, which would see him join back up with the 55-year old who he spent two years with, in Japan.

However, his latest move has put those rumours to bed with Papas joining Australian side Newcastle Jets.

In his first press conference via the Newcastle Jets official website, Papas did mention the new Celtic boss, heaping lots of praise on the former Socceroos manager.

“I think he’s had a little bit on his place the last couple of weeks. So I probably feel the talk of Newcastle Jets wasn’t probably at the highest on his list!

“But Ange always makes time as well. He just wished all the best, but he’s got his own massive challenge, not just for himself but for Australian football as well. So all I can say is he’s a great support. I had an opportunity to work in the best league in Asia with him as well, winning the league with him and obviously playing in the Asian Champions League as well.

“He’s really set a blueprint for Australian coaches in general in that you can be ambitious; you can always think above and not just settle.”

At this stage, it remains to be seen who will be part of Postecoglou’s coaching staff at Parkhead.

Last week he commented on the situation, stating that he was in full control of his choices going forward, but he is still to make a final decision as he continues to settle into life as Celtic manager.

Fingers crossed, we can get more updates in the next few weeks as we approach the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign.
