Yang Reveals Nerves Got to Him Against Lazio

It came as a surprise to many when Yang started for Celtic in the Champions League against Lazio a few weeks ago. The South Korean winger didn’t conjure up anything of note on his European debut but has admitted his angst in the match.

It was only inevitable the 21-year-old would feel this way going into such a game. He said (Celtic TV via Daily Record): “It was such an honour to play in the Champions League. It’s a shame that I couldn’t show all of my ability as I was feeling a bit nervous since it was such a big game.”

Many argued pre-match that Luis Palma should have played ahead of Yang against the Italians and in reflection, that should have been the case. Nevertheless, it was an invaluable experience for the former Gangwon man.

He has yet to bag his maiden Celtic goal, but doing so is one of his targets. Yang said: “The main team objective is to win the Premiership. My personal objective is to score my first goal and be of help to the team.”

Over the course of the season, it is certain Yang will receive many more opportunities. The K. League Young Player of the Year for 2022 has a long way to go in his development, but he has potential, which he has shown in shades.
