‘Yang and Idah Up Front?’ – Pundit Questions Celtic’s Summer Strategy

Si Ferry has slammed Celtic’s summer transfer business, criticising the club for dragging their feet in the market.

With Kyogo and Nicolas Kühn sold over the past six months, Ferry believes there’s been a glaring failure to adequately replace them.

While Rangers have moved to sign Djeidi Gassama and Oliver Antman, two players who may yet be flops, the contrast in intent has not gone unnoticed.

Celtic’s lack of signings, particularly in attacking areas, is fast becoming a source of discontent among supporters.

Ferry didn’t hold back, questioning why Celtic haven’t moved when it’s clear new signings are needed. He took aim at Yang Hyun-jun and Adam Idah being the main attacking options.

Idah joined permanently from Norwich last summer in a £9 million deal, but has yet to show he can truly fill the void left by Kyogo. With the club short on natural goal scorers, Ferry’s frustration is shared by many within the support.

He said: (Open Goal), “How can Rangers have Antman and Gassama on either wing, and Celtic are going with Yang and Idah up front?

“Seriously, with the financial situation Celtic are in?

“But why not? If Go Ahead Eagles asked for £5 million, Rangers just went and paid it.

“And then these players are already behind. I think they needed to get them in early.”

Ferry’s comments didn’t come out of the blue. Celtic’s board have often stuck to a careful and sensible transfer plan, but with the squad badly needing real quality, waiting too long feels like a risk.

Kyogo’s departure left a big gap up front, and while Idah can score goals, he still hasn’t shown he can lead the line for a full season. Yang, on the other hand, continues to be hit and miss in the final third.

With Rangers adding new faces and preparing to push for the title, Celtic’s slow start to the window has only made the contrast more obvious. Gassama and Antman might flop, but at least they show real intent to improve the squad.

There’s still time for Celtic to act, but the longer they wait, the more it looks like they’re holding back instead of backing Brendan Rodgers. And in Ferry’s eyes, that could be a costly mistake.
