Celtic are bracing themselves for bids as defender Josip Juranovic looks set to leave the Scottish champions.
It is being reported that Barcelona are ready to make an approach for the fullback and test out Celtic’s resolve with Xavi having the defender on a list of targets. [SunSport]
The 27-year-old is contracted to the club until 2026 meaning the league leaders have full control of this situation with it being revealed that both parties would again sit down with each other to discuss terms.
Barcelona aren’t the only team interested in the services of the Croatian international as fellow La Liga club Atletico Madrid have also been reportedly keen as well as two unnamed English Premier League clubs.
Juranovic had a standout World Cup campaign and played every minute for Croatia until they were beaten in the semi final by eventual winners Argentina.
Although he didn’t feature in third place play-off he was rewarded with a bronze medal and given a heroes welcome when he returned to Zagreb alongside his international teammates.
If Barcelona step up their interest even further, there could be a significant catch as they are working under FFP restrictions imposed on them due to their monetary situation.
Xavi is keen on strengthening his squad in January who don’t have Champions League football to look forward to but went into the World Cup break two points ahead of Real Madrid. However, the Catalans need to sell before they can buy.
It should be beneficial to Celtic that there are so many clubs interested in the defender as that should only increase his market value meaning the club would receive a higher offer.
