“Would Make Any Team Better” – Schmeichel Weighs In on Vardy Rumours

Kasper Schmeichel has praised Jamie Vardy as an “incredible striker” and believes his former Leicester City teammate would be an asset to any team though he admits he hasn’t spoken to the forward about a potential move to Celtic.

Vardy has been linked with a shock switch to Parkhead in recent days, with reports suggesting the 38-year-old is open to the move. However, interest from Serie A champions Napoli has also surfaced, and as it stands, it’s understood Celtic have not yet made formal contact with the player.

Quizzed on the possibility of a reunion in Glasgow, Schmeichel was full of admiration for his former colleague but remained tight-lipped on any developments behind the scenes.

“Jamie is an incredible striker that would make any team better, I think,” said Schmeichel to the Daily Record. “But I haven’t spoken to him about it, no. I don’t really know what his thoughts would be or the club’s thoughts would be.

“But I can only say when I played with him at Leicester he was an incredible guy and an incredible striker.”

Vardy is currently a free agent and is weighing up his options, with his proven pedigree attracting interest from across Europe.

Whether Celtic enter the race remains to be seen – but with Adam Idah currently injured and Kyogo having departed in January, the need for a proven centre-forward remains one of the club’s most pressing issues.

A move for Vardy, at this stage, would probably be good, but if you had floated the idea at the start of the window, it would have been shot down, and quite rightly.
