Former Celtic star and assistant manager Murdo MacLeod is encouraged by Celtic’s signs of revival after the game against Dundee on Sunday.
The player praised the mana of the moment Kyogo Furuhashi for landing an incredible hat-trick on his home debut.
Celtic struggled in the early going with little reinforcements but as Ange starts to build his team, things are looking a bit more promising.
MacLeod admitted the jury is still out on Celtic and what they could potentially do this season. The player turned pundit also recalled how he and Win Jansen didn’t get off to the best start the season Celtic stopped the ten but things slowly came together.
They had their talisman Henrik Larsson to call upon – signing the Swede at the start of that season.
Can Kyogo be the same kind of talisman this season? Nobody should be comparing him to the Celtic legend after two games, but if he can keep playing to a high standard, there’s no doubt the Japanese star is going to score a lot of goals this term.
As quoted by SunSport, MacLeod said: “You never know fully about a new manager until well into the season.
“We’ve watched him get knocked out of the Champions League and then lose at Tynecastle.
“I know what that is like as we didn’t get off to the best of starts when trying to stop Rangers. But Sunday was hugely encouraging. It was a special display.
“I think Dundee would have been shocked by the quality of Celtic and Furuhashi. They seemed to struggle against his electric pace.
“But I still think you’ve got to let him just play at the moment.
“The players we brought in at that time, including Henrik, we hoped they would all turn out to be special.
“Obviously, Henrik got more and more special over the years, but it’s obvious the fans already love Kyogo. There are pictures of him celebrating with his arms stretched out and his tongue that look a bit familiar!
“He’s enjoying scoring goals and what it has done is give the Celtic supporters a massive lift.”
Celtic have a game against Jablonec on Thursday where the bhoys can book a place in the playoff round of the Europa League. There will be an almost full stadium for the tie and the Hoops can lay down another marker.
