World Cup Striker Confirms Previous Celtic Interest

ICELAND Striker Alfred Finnbogason has confirmed the interest in him a few years back from Celtic was real.

At one point the rumours were so intense many thought it was a matter of days before Celtic signed the striker.

Celtic were priced out of a move for the player while he played for Heerenveen who eventually was sold to Real Sociedad for over £8million.

The La Liga move didn’t work out and he spent time out on loan to Olympiacos and FC Augsburg.

The 29-year-old signed on a permanent basis for FC Augsburg in 2016 for a fee of around £3.5million.

Speaking about Celtic’s interest to the Daily Mail, Finnbogason said: “This rumour (about Celtic) has been around many times, especially when I was playing at Heerenveen.

“I know there was interest at some point but it never got so far that I had to make a decision about it.

“It would have been a nice story but I am quite happy with how my career has gone – with all its highs and lows.”
