At this point, Celtic fans are well aware of what they’re getting from manager Brendan Rodgers – but as we look ahead to the start of a new campaign, many are wondering whether or not he can help take the club to the next level.
In addition to maintaining their domestic success, one thing that all Celts supporters want to see is a deep European run. An appearance in the knockout phase playoffs of the Champions League, in which they only went out to Bayern Munich courtesy of a 94th minute Alphonso Davies goal, served as a real statement of what the future could hold for this club just a few months ago.
Across his many years and tenures at Celtic, Rodgers has been slowly learning what it means to succeed in Europe, to the point now where it feels as if he’s more comfortable from a tactical point of view and with the pressure that sits on his shoulders.
In a recent interview, Rodgers made it crystal clear that he believes there’s more work to be done.
“We didn’t dominate last year, we only won two out of three trophies.
“But also being in Europe and making sure we are competitive and challenging at that level is very important for us, consistently, not just for one season.
“We believe we can be even better this season on the domestic front and we can take the experiences we’ve had over these last couple of seasons into Europe where we aim to again look to perform very, very well.
“Celtic is a huge club. You can never stand still. It’s always moving at a really, really fast speed.”
A fifth straight league title may well be on the cards, but in case you’re feeling brave, you can use the AceOdds bet calculator to see how likely an underdog European Cup win is.
With the likes of Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Nygren coming through the front door, and more signings likely to be on the way before the window closes, Celtic are taking things pretty seriously before the first ball is even kicked.
