Why Midfielder’s Celtic Return Looks Unlikely

Stuart Armstrong has become a free agent after his contract expired with Southampton, despite the club’s interest in keeping him following their promotion to the Premier League.

While Celtic fans fondly remember Armstrong’s impactful performances during Brendan Rodgers’s initial tenure and may dream of his return, there have been no concrete links between Armstrong and a move back to Parkhead.

Nonetheless, the prospect of a late move cannot be entirely dismissed given Armstrong’s appealing profile. He’s a player who’d help Celtic meet the homegrown player quota in UEFA competition.  He also has plenty of experience in the SPFL and under manager Brendan Rodgers, with whom he played some of his best football. Not to forget that he would be available

These make Armstrong an attractive option should Celtic decide to revisit their former player as a potential signing, offering a blend of experience, proven quality, and value.

However, as of now, Armstrong’s future seems more likely to continue in the Premier League or perhaps venture into Italian football with Fiorentina.
