With this being City’s first preseason match, Guardiola seems poised to utilize the game as a platform to evaluate younger players and those returning from loan spells.
Manchester City’s squad for their USA Tour includes high-profile players like Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish. However, Guardiola’s recent comments suggest a keen interest in assessing the development of the club’s younger players, particularly James McAtee, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield.
Guardiola expressed his excitement about McAtee’s return and potential contributions, stating, “I want to see all of them. I’m curious to see James McAtee especially, coming back from Sheffield. I have a high opinion of him. I would love to have him and keep him next season with us.” [Man City]
There will still be some first-team stars on the field from City. But with the Premier League behind Celtic in their preparations, there will be a lot of rotation.
Nevertheless, it will be a good test for Celtic, up against a quality opposition with their league season just a couple of weeks away from commencing.
