Celtic are already in the knockout phase of the Europa League after two wins over Lazio back to back. The bhoys have no time to rest and now welcome Rennes to Celtic Park for the second time this season in the hope of topping the group.
There are a few injury concerns ahead of the tie with Hatem Elhamed out injured, Jonny Hayes and Boli struggling along with Moi.
This leaves the full-back positions wide open, but Neil can’t call on his surprise package of the season Jeremie Frimpong for the game on Thursday because the player wasn’t registered to play in the competition back at the start of September.
This means Mortiz Bauer will almost certainly start for the team come 8 pm on Thursday.
Knowing we’re already in the next phase is a great thing, and Neil Lennon has told the Celtic support he plans to register Jeremie Frimpong for the second half of the Europa League campaign when the bhoys play in the last 32 in mid-February.
“We know Jerry (Frimpong) is unregistered, and we’ll have to look at that for the second half of the season,” Lennon told CelticTV.
With that in mind, Celtic will have to drop a player who is currently registered for the squad. Any transfers out could easily pave the way, but if everyone stays put, there will be someone getting taken out of the competition to bring the wee man into the fold.
