‘Well Beyond That’ – Celtic Boss Explains Player’s Role

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has remained full of praise for his striker, Daizen Maeda, highlighting an aspect of his game that many fans have missed.

The Japanese international has worked under Ange before, at Yokohama F. Marinos, so the boss knows what he will receive from his striker.

Arriving in January, the 24-year-old scored early into his Hoops debut but then went on a bit of a goal drought. Fans were beginning to question the striker; even a few had written him off.

On Sunday, after a brilliant performance from the striker, Ange offered fans a different view on the first goal scorer of the afternoon. Live on Sky Sports, the gaffer said;

“I get that strikers are measured by goals but what he brings to our team is well beyond that.

“But it is great for him because strikers also enjoy scoring.

“His defensive work was outstanding. That really helps us and sets the platform and allows us to launch another attack.”

Maeda found himself helping the team defend throughout the afternoon, whether he came deep into his half or supported the players on the wings close down their man.

The striker can score goals, finishing top scorer in the J-League there is no doubting that, but he can also press his opponents. His speed helps him do this.

With Kyogo set to return soon, it’s a scary thought the amount of closing down the pair will do. Opposition teams may not prepared for what is about to hit them.
