‘We Only Spray Champagne’ – Celtic Aim Savage Title Jibe at Vaclav Cerny

Celtic’s social media team didn’t miss their chance to have another bit of fun at Rangers’ expense after lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy for the 55th time.

Following the 1-1 draw with St Mirren at Celtic Park, the players celebrated in the dressing room – and a particular photo shared by the club online grabbed attention quickly.

In a simple one-liner, but one that was clearly aimed at Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny. Back in March, during the Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park, Cerny caused a stir when he sprayed water at Celtic fans after celebrating a late Rangers goal.

The moment was caught on camera, and it didn’t go down well. Police looked into the incident, and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton summed it up best when he said, “That was just silly. Players are warned before these games not to wind up the crowd.”

So, when Celtic got their hands on the league trophy and the champagne was out, the club used that same moment to poke fun back. This wasn’t the first time Celtic had used social media to have a playful dig at their rivals this season. Just hours earlier, they posted a message that began “World’s Most Successful…” and ended it with “Simply the Best” – a phrase strongly tied to Rangers’ identity. The caption was cheekily followed by, “Just another day in Paradise,” referencing Celtic Park’s nickname.

These posts have delighted Celtic supporters, especially with the league title back in the Parkhead trophy room. This afternoon’s draw with St Mirren wasn’t a classic, but it didn’t need to be. The job was already done. Celtic had secured the title before the final day, and the game became more of a celebration than a contest.

James Forrest gave the Celtic fans one last cheer in stoppage time, scoring a late equaliser that kept Celtic unbeaten at home for the league season. It was a goal with meaning too – it marked the 16th straight season in which Forrest has scored for the club. That’s a run last matched by Celtic legend Paul McStay.

The title win is Celtic’s fourth in a row. Brendan Rodgers, who returned to the club in 2023, now adds another Premiership crown to his name. It marks a strong finish to a campaign that had its ups and downs, but ended with silverware in the cabinet and smiles all round.

When it comes to celebrations at Celtic Park, it’s champagne that flows – not water bottles.
