“We Can’t Be Happy Just to Make Our Money” – Rodgers Calls for Ambitious Celtic Transfers

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has emphasised the urgent need to bolster the squad for supporters by the transfer deadline on Friday.

The Hoops have been quiet in the transfer market so far, but the Irishman is hopeful that they will be busy over the coming days.

Rodgers said: (Daily Record), “But over the context of the season, it’s a really important week for us. As a football club, we want to develop, we want to improve.

“We can’t be happy just to make our money and build our pot because the bottom line is on the pitch. That’s the bottom line. The supporters, they pay the money. I look back to the Covid times here, the Celtic supporters sold the stadium out and they weren’t allowed in it.

“So we have the duty to put the best team on the pitch. That’s what we’ll do and look to do. It’s taken a bit longer than I would have liked. But if we can do it by Friday, strengthen the squad, we’ll be in a really, really good place.

“The team is in a good place, mentally, tactically, how they’re playing. But we want to strengthen and have that depth.”

Rodgers is spot on with his comments about needing new players, but as of now, there’s still a lot to be done.

His optimism suggests that the Celtic board might deliver spectacularly in the coming days.

Matt O’Riley certainly won’t be replaced on a like-for-like basis, but adding four or five new players could make the squad stronger overall.

Until now, the lack of business hasn’t been good enough, but Rodgers is confident that it will be addressed by the time Celtic face Rangers at Celtic Park on Sunday at 12pm.

Ultimately, the coming week is arguably the biggest of the season, and with supporters optimistic, it could turn out to be one of the most significant in the club’s history.
