Hyeon-gyu Oh has continued to impress on the international stage, once again getting on the scoresheet for South Korea in their World Cup qualifier win against Iraq.

Coming off the bench in the 59th minute, Oh made an immediate impact, scoring in the 74th minute to help secure a 3-2 victory. The win kept South Korea at the top of their qualifying group, with 10 points from four matches.

This international success is a welcome boost for Oh, whose 18-month spell at Celtic was marked by limited opportunities. After moving to Genk in a relatively quiet summer transfer, Oh has mostly been used as a substitute at his new club.

He’s bagged a few goals, got Genk and is now in goalscoring form for his country.

At Celtic, Oh struggled for consistent game time, especially after the arrival of Adam Idah, which saw him slip down the pecking order.

The striker admitted that the January arrival of the Irishman all but spelt the end of his time at the Hoops, moving on in the summer.

It’s great to see the resurgence from the striker. Things simply didn’t work out for him at Celtic, but with his move, he’s got his career back on track and is now getting call-ups to the national team.
