Watch: Greg Taylor’s Tunnel Moment Melts Hearts

There was a special moment at Celtic Park this afternoon, and it happened before a ball was even kicked, as Greg Taylor emerged from the tunnel with his baby in his arms – a touching sight that had supporters applauding even before the game got underway.

It was a scene that showed the human side of football, a proud father sharing a moment with his child on the pitch of Celtic Park. But once the whistle blew, Taylor put sentiment to one side and turned in a performance that reminded everyone exactly why he’s been so badly missed in recent weeks.

The left-back was absolutely outstanding in Celtic’s 5-1 demolition of Kilmarnock. In a side full of constant attacking threats and goal-of-the-season contenders, Taylor stood out for his intelligence, work rate, and incredible positional play. He was at the heart of everything good Celtic produced in the first half, inverting with purpose and linking play brilliantly through the midfield. His sharp lay-off for Reo Hatate’s stunning opener set the tone, and from that point on he hardly put a foot wrong.

In possession, Taylor looked calm and composed, always making himself available and recycling the ball well. His movement caused constant problems for Killie, drifting inside and helping to overload central areas. Defensively, he was alert and energetic, tracking back when needed and snapping into tackles with intent.

Substituted just after the hour mark, Taylor had already made his mark on the match. It was no surprise to see him awarded man of the match – not just for the quality of his play, but for the influence he had in dictating Celtic’s tempo and rhythm. In many ways, this was a performance that showed everything he brings to Brendan Rodgers’ side: balance, intelligence, and the ability to link defence with attack so fluidly.

With Taylor’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season, after this afternoon’s performance, surely Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic hierarchy will consider offering Taylor a better extension for next season. If he continues in this form alongside Kieran Tierney next season, left-back will be the competitive position in the Celtic starting XI.
