Gerry McCulloch delivered a moment of sharp humour on Celtic TV following Celtic’s Premier Sports Cup Final victory over Rangers.

As the Rangers players collected their runners-up medals, the commentator couldn’t resist a dig at the Rangers supporters who had already streamed out of Hampden Park in disappointment.

It was a strange sight from the fan base who don’t do walking away.

With the camera capturing the sea of empty seats, McCulloch quipped:
“It’s good to see that the Rangers supporters have waited behind to cheer them….. they’re all dressed as seats now.”

The comment perfectly captured the scene of dejection among the Rangers fans, who left the national stadium in droves after their side suffered yet another defeat to their fierce Glasgow rivals.

The final itself was a pulsating 3-3 draw after extra time, with Celtic ultimately prevailing 5-4 on penalties. The thrilling nature of the encounter made the victory even sweeter for the Celtic fans, while the result added to the frustration and heartbreak for Rangers supporters, who were desperate to see their side claim silverware.

With Brendan Rodgers maintaining his undefeated record at Hampden and extending Celtic’s silverware haul beyond Rangers for the first time since the 1930s, McCulloch’s commentary was a fitting flourish to an unforgettable day for the green-and-white.

Celtic are now Scotland’s most successful club, beyond any doubt.
