David Turnbull may be caught in a relegation fight with Cardiff City, but his contribution to Celtic’s recent trophy-laden spell hasn’t gone unnoticed south of the border.

The 25-year-old, who left Parkhead over a year ago after three and a half seasons, was brought off the bench in Cardiff’s 2-0 loss to Sheffield United on Good Friday. Despite limited time on the pitch, Turnbull drew attention from the match commentators, who hailed him as a “former Celtic serial winner.”

It’s a reminder of the midfielder’s pedigree. Turnbull lifted six trophies during his time with the Hoops, playing a key role under both Neil Lennon and Ange Postecoglou. His technical quality and eye for goal made him a valuable asset at Celtic.
Now, he finds himself in an unfamiliar position—fighting for Championship survival. Cardiff’s loss on Friday leaves them 23rd in the table, and Turnbull’s role has largely been limited to substitute appearances in recent weeks. Still, his experience and composure could prove vital in the run-in, where they will need some big goals from the player. He showed during his time at Celtic that he can fairly hit the ball, so for Cardiff’s sake, he’ll be hoping to replicate that now.
