Holders Celtic stormed into the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over Falkirk under the lights at Celtic Park but the post-match scenes carried just as much warmth as the action itself.
Scott Bain, who left the club this summer to join Falkirk, was embraced by his former teammates in the centre circle at full-time, sharing laughs and hugs with the likes of Callum McGregor and James Forrest before heading down the tunnel to catch up with members of the Celtic staff.
He was then filmed catching up with his former manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Wholesome content time as Brendan Rodgers warmly embraces ex-Celtic goalie Scott Bain – and then spends a few moments chatting to him, following this evening’s Celtic – Falkirk League Cup tie.

On the pitch, however, Bain had a busy evening. Celtic, despite making six changes from their weekend win at Aberdeen, started with fluency and piled on the pressure. Falkirk held firm until the half-hour mark when Kieran Tierney’s cross was headed down by the returning left-back for Daizen Maeda to net his ninth League Cup goal in nine games.
Bain had a good game; it could easily have been a cricket score without some of his great saves.
Celtic threatened to run away with it but Falkirk stayed competitive, even forcing a couple of strong saves from Viljami Sinisalo. Yet just after the hour the game was decided in a whirlwind spell. Alistair Johnston’s sharp finish doubled the lead, before 22-year-old Dane Murray capped the day he signed a new contract with his first Celtic goal. Minutes later, Yang Hyun-jun’s cross deflected in off Liam Henderson to make it four.
Keelan Adams struck a thunderous consolation late on, but the night belonged to Celtic and for Bain, a chance to reconnect with old friends.
