VAR reviewed Willie Collum’s penalty award in the 51st minute, despite Matt O’Riley being clearly clipped by Mohamed Diomande.
The review took a grand total of four minutes, with Collum being sent to the monitor to look at his initial decision.
As seen in the video below, O’Riley attempts to play a through ball, but contact from Diomande means that the Danish playmaker is unable to make the pass, falling short onto the ground with his foot a distance from the ball due to the contact.
Simply put, if Diomande makes no contact, O’Riley can play a pass in the Rangers box, making it a foul and therefore a penalty.

Rightly, Collum decided to go with the penalty award, but why VAR chose to even look at the penalty award in the first place is questionable, as there was clearly no clear and obvious error in the decision.
Undeniably, the drawn-out time to review the decision affected O’Riley, who missed the penalty, with Jack Butland making the save.
But why, in the first place, Steven McLean felt the need to send Collum to question himself is beyond belief, with Celtic supporters in attendance at the game and watching from home unsure of what McLean saw.
