Watch: Atletico Bilbao Fans Pay Classy Tribute to Celtic

Atletico Bilbao supporters have paid tribute to Celtic ahead of their trip to Ibrox tonight in the Europa League by singing the Hoops chant, ‘Celtic Glasgow, oh, oh, oh,’ so often heard at Celtic games, home and away.

Bilbao has historically had links to the Hoops, with James Forrest’s testimonial at Celtic Park in August 2023 coming against the Basque side, who had previously honored Celtic legend Billy McNeill with their prestigious ‘One Club Award’ in 2019.

No doubt, they felt the same about Forrest, who, like McNeill, has only played for the Hoops in his senior career.

Celtic previously faced Bilbao in 2011 under Neil Lennon in a 0-0 draw at San Mamés, beginning the friendship between a number of supporters who relate to each other not just on a football level, but also through shared values and mutual respect for each club’s traditions and community.

It’s brilliant to see the Bilbao supporters paying tribute at George Square, and they will no doubt bring an atmosphere to Ibrox, a stadium in which away supporters’ numbers are often restricted.

Ernesto Valverde’s side is currently fourth in La Liga and is hoping to reach the Europa League final in May, which will be held in Bilbao. However, for the time being, they will have to negotiate two legs against Rangers.
