Kasper Schmeichel may have endured a difficult end to the season with his costly mistake in the Scottish Cup Final, but there’s no question about the respect he commands inside the dressing room.

It’s the unforgiving life of a goalkeeper, one error can undo weeks of top-class work. But Schmeichel’s team-mate Viljami Sinisalo isn’t dwelling on the slip-up. The young Finnish keeper is more focused on continuing his development under the guidance of one of the most decorated players in the modern game.
The pair have struck up a strong bond in training, with Sinisalo seeing his more senior colleague not as a rival, but a role model. With both shot-stoppers driving each other on daily, the competition at Lennoxtown is fierce, and healthy.
He said: (RecordSport), “Kasper has experienced a lot in his career. He’s a winner. He knows what he is doing. It’s more a case of me learning from him. He’s brilliant to work with.
“Even when he was injured and out of the team he was still a major voice and big presence in the team. He’s big for us. Kasper was brilliant last season and I’m sure he will be again. I’ve really enjoyed working with him.
“Every keeper wants to play, so if the chance comes I’ll hopefully grasp it with both hands.
“I’m working towards eventually being No.1 at the club but myself and Kasper have a great relationship. We really push each other to be the best we can be.
“That will continue. I wouldn’t call it a rivalry as such. We are good friends but we are trying to push each other, and that’s the best environment to be in.
“When you know the keeper ahead of you or behind you is doing well, it just forces you to push to get better. That’s what good team-mates do. It’s what we’ve been doing and what we will continue to do.”
Sinisalo speaks like a young keeper who’s keen to learn but ready to take his chance when it comes. There’s no big ego, just a clear goal and plenty of respect for the man ahead of him.

For Brendan Rodgers, the attitude and spirit between his goalkeepers will be a big plus going into the new season. Schmeichel brings know-how, Sinisalo brings hunger, and Celtic look solid in goal.
His words also show that mistakes are part of the game, but it’s how you deal with them that counts. There’s no sign of any Hampden hangover, just hard work and sharp focus for what’s to come.
