Joe Hart played his third last of his illustrious career on Wednesday night, as his side won their third consecutive league title.
The retirement announcement came earlier this year, but the significance of his decision was highlighted during Celtic’s league-winning match against Kilmarnock on Wednesday.
Celtic captain Callum McGregor made a poignant gesture during the match.
After the game was securely in Celtic’s favour, McGregor was substituted off and, instead of passing the captain’s armband to the usual deputy, Cameron Carter-Vickers, he chose to run over to Hart, handing him the armband and embracing the goalkeeper. This gesture was not only a mark of personal respect but also a recognition of Hart’s contributions to the team over the last three years.
