Video: Billy McNeill Statue Unveiled

The Billy McNeill statue was erected on Saturday afternoon, three years after his sad passing.

Crowds took to the streets to watch the unveiling, remembering the Lisbon Lion and one of Celtic’s greatest ever players.

Plans for the statue have been going on for years since the sad passing of Cesar, with the Billy McNeill Commemoration Committee raising over £70,000 so that today’s event could take place.

Of course, there is already a tribute to Cesar on the Celtic Way, but having another in his hometown is great for the community.

Some of Billy’s former teammates and players attended the ceremony, amongst them was Frank McAvennie, who’s currently battling cancer.

It was a great attendance on Saturday afternoon, but for those who were unable to make it, Celtic TV has announced that they will have coverage posted in due course.
