Viaplay has announced plans to withdraw from all UK markets. The move comes as the Scandinavian streaming service seeks to stabilise its finances after suffering significant losses last year.

The decision means that Viaplay will end its association and sponsorship with Scottish football, a move that could have far-reaching implications for the sport. However, the broadcaster remains tied to Scottish cup competitions for another three years due to existing contractual obligations.
As things stand, it’s business as usual say the broadcaster, despite their announcement on Thursday morning.
They missed the following statement, via Stephen McGowan, saying nothing has changed in their services just yet, and they remain the sponsors of the League Cup.
“We have initiated a review for our International markets, including the UK, where we will seek optimal solutions for our operations, including partnerships. Until then it is business as usual, what our customers can watch on Viaplay today will be there tomorrow.”
Viaplay revealed its plans on Thursday, stating that it would focus on its primary markets in the Nordics and the Netherlands. The strategy involves terminating its streaming services in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, the company plans to lay off over 25% of its workforce as part of a broader cost-cutting strategy in response to various business challenges.
