VASILIS BARKAS has been named as runner-up in the goalkeeper category in the Greek Union of Professional Football Players awards as reported by SunSport.
The winner of the award was Jose Sa, who plays for Greek champions Olympiacos.
The Celtic keeper was a close second despite the way his season has panned out in Glasgow.
The goalkeeper has been in and out of the side, not doing much to prove his worth but not doing any worse than the other two goalkeepers Neil Lennon has used.
Many fans forget the human aspect of football and in these times we need to remember Barkas has left his country for the first time to play his football in Scotland during a worldwide pandemic. The change in culture is hard enough for players to settle in normal times, but this is an extraordinary time in all our lives.
Being unable to fully integrate with his teammates due to rules and living out of temporary accommodation while being put in and out of the team is not going to help things.
He hasn’t been a success yet, but there is time.
Perhaps Celtic will be happy that he’s still very much appreciated in Greece, they could fetch a fee for Vasilis in the summer if the two parties decide it’s best for him to move on.
