VAR Latest; Debut Revealed

VAR is set to enter Scottish Football earlier than expected, with the initial date set for after the World Cup.

After it was rumoured that the release of the technology in Scotland had been brought forward to October, SunSport claims that VAR will be in operation next week.

All six fixtures will have VAR in operation, with Friday night’s encounter between Hibs and St Johnstone the first domestic fixture to use the technology in Scotland.

Celtic’s match against Hearts at Tynecastle will have VAR in use.

Celtic have experience with VAR, with it in operation in Europe. It’s gone for and against the Hoops and will be an interesting addition to the Scottish game.

It will hopefully eliminate most of the wrong calls, like offsides, something Celtic always see decisions go against them for.

The SFA will officially announce the news soon, but it already has the backing of the referees. The governing body’s website has not released the team for Celtic’s trip to the capital next week, but that will come in due course.

VAR will be in operation from Friday, 21st October, right through until at least the end of the season, with this year being used to trial the technology.
