There’s no doubt that Hibs look like they have a player on their hands in Ryan Porteous. The defender ruffled a few feathers last weekend and his ability has been praised from several quarters in recent weeks.
However, some Celtic fans appear to be jumping the gun when it comes to the defender’s upside.
After an antagonistic show at Easter Road last Sunday, some supporters have suggested Celtic should sign Ryan in this window and have him as cover in case Ajer goes.
While he might have a great upside, it’s very early to say if he could make the grade at Celtic. Look at Jack Hendry when he came into the club, it’s not an easy step up and sometimes you need to let the player breathe and continue his development in a first team scenario.
There could be a time down the line when Celtic should make a move, but right now, these supporters need to understand one swallow doesn’t make a swallow.
