‘Unforgivable’ – Chris Sutton Warns Celtic Left Short in Title Fight

Chris Sutton has launched a fierce attack on Celtic’s summer transfer window, warning the squad is now weaker than it was this time last year.

The former Hoops striker pulled no punches as he broke down the failed chases for new signings and the key exits. Sutton believes Brendan Rodgers has been badly let down, accusing the board of gambling with the title in a way he calls “unforgivable.”

He focused on the striker situation, pointing to the sales of Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kühn and Adam Idah. In his view, the poor planning has left Rodgers short of proven quality and left supporters with every reason to be angry.

In short, Sutton believes Celtic are weaker, the fans are angrier, and the club face a season that could have been avoided with more courage and quicker work in the market. His comments echo the growing frustration of supporters who see money in the bank but not enough investment on the pitch.

He said: (Daily Record YouTube), “Celtic had to do what was best for them. They were happy to let Kyogo go, happy to let Nicolas Kühn go, and in the end pulled Adam Idah back but still chose to sell him.”

“You know, the bottom line is this — and I don’t have to say it because everybody knows it.

“Celtic are in a position where they have inferior players compared to 12 months ago.

“That’s pretty unforgivable for Celtic to be in that position.

“There’s a lot of anger among the Celtic support.”

Sutton’s message struck a chord because it mirrors what fans already feel. The anger isn’t only about missed signings, it’s about slipping backwards after seasons of success. Instead of building on progress, Celtic now look like a team standing still.

The comparison with Rangers and even Hearts in their recruitment makes the criticism stronger. Sutton’s view isn’t over the top, it’s about the plain truth of a squad missing the firepower and depth a champion side needs.

Brendan Rodgers must now try to hold a team together good enough to defend the title, while knowing the board failed to give him the support he wanted. Sutton was clear this is a position Celtic should never have allowed to happen.

The ex-striker’s verdict is sharp: the team is weaker, the support is angrier, and unless the club act fast, this season could end in frustration instead of celebration.
