It was that same old sinking feeling for Graeme Murty at Celtic Park on Tuesday night when the Ibrox coach brought his under 20 squad to the East end of Glasgow.
Murty’s men lost out on the trophy in a pulsating game which saw Celtic grab it at the death with a 3-2 victory.
Celtic were 2-0 up at half time thanks to goals from Jack Aitchison and a free kick from Mikey Johnstone. In the second half, the Ibrox club came back into it and Celtic collapsed late on with two goals coming from Glenn Middleton late on.
The game was finely poised going into added time and when Ewan Henderson launched a ball into the box in the 95th minute of added time Robbie Deas couldn’t have struck it any better! It was a belter of a winner and Celtic had done it.
After the game, Murty made the admission the goal to win it was ‘unbelieivable’ from Robbie Deas. However, the Ibrox coach wasn’t in the mood to be too complimentary saying his side didn’t deserve to lose on the night.
“The guys know we can’t give good teams a two goal head-start and expect it not to be a little bit frantic towards the end,” Murty told Rangers TV.
“I thought they showed fantastic character to get back in the game and could have won it, but in the end, we have lost to a goal which is an unbelievable finish from the guy. Congratulations to him and congratulations to our opponent, but we didn’t deserve to lose.”
