UFC Legend Conor McGregor was doing a Q&A on social media on Sunday evening when the topic of him buying Manchester Utd coming up.
The Irishman’s response was rather jaw dropping. Conor says he is certainly interested in black hiring a sports team down the line and doing big things. He cites speaking about acquiring Celtic and buying Dermot Desmond’s share in what must be the most bizarre tweet of the year.
A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest. To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond. I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage!
Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club. https://t.co/KgD9qnYipP— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) May 9, 2021
McGregor has made a fortune through fights and endorsement and has serious cash to spend but I don’t think many can envision the fighter in a Celtic board room discussing the finer points of signing Leigh Griffiths to a fresh deal.
Celtic fans have been in favour of the club being sold to the right investor down the line – moving away from Desmond, but I don’t think that’s what they have in mind.

It’s worth pointing out Desmond and a group called Lindsell train so the club’s majority stake could always be up for sale in that scenario.
The Celtic Trust have been urging supporters to get behind them in a bid to get more shares in the club.
Maybe Conor can bank roll them!
