UEFA Take Null and Void off the Table – Sporting Merit the Way Forward

The SPFL have been given the green light to end the league as it stands with any one of these two conditions

– governments place an official order prohibiting sports events

– continuing the season creates insurmountable economic problems and risks long-term financial instability

This is most certainly going to be the case going forward with the government not keen on any type of sport being played in the short to medium future.

There is a potential for small playoff systems with league which are pretty tight.

The SPFL isn’t tight when it comes to who should be champions.

– If a league cannot be completed in full, UEFA prefers leagues to finish the season with a different format, which suggests possible small playoff systems.

-Preferable domestic competitions restart with a different format in a manner which would facilitate sporting merit.

The warning is still there if any association takes matters into their own hands out with the two pre-approved guidelines – punishments will come into play.

– UEFA reiterates that if a league terminates without government decree or economic problems, clubs could be barred from next season’s UEL and UCL.

Celtic have always maintained they would like the season to restart but it looks impossible.

While some leagues are gearing up for a potential return across Europe – it’s likely to be taken out of the club’s hands.

At which point, Celtic would be crowned champions and with no reconstruction in place – Hearts would be relegated.

– UEFA can refuse an association’s list if it hasn’t been selected on sporting merit (objective, transparent and non-discriminatory).
