UEFA Set to Roll Out ‘Sporting Merit’ League Decision

UEFA are set to announce leagues WILL be able to name winners and losers on ‘Sporting merit’ going forward.

While the organisation would prefer leagues to be done and dusted before August – it looks increasingly likely that many countries will not be able to adhere to the deadline through no fault of their own.

This leaves leagues in the precarious position of not being able to see out the last part of the season. But UEFA have come around to the idea of points per game and allowing leagues to be called on that basis.

This has already been put in place in Scotland and has been derided by certain people in our game. Now Europe’s governing body for football believes sporting merit counts and clubs will qualify through that system if the league can’t come to its natural conclusion.

Jornalist Martyn Zeigler reports this as UEFA and the 55 associations are in a meeting about the immediate future of our game.
