UEFA are looking to make changes to the way football club and agents do business in future it has been revealed with the organisation looking to cap agent fees and also stop the bigger clubs from stockpiling young players.
In the past 15 years we have seen a lot of clubs hoover up all the young talent indiscriminately and then loan them out for three or four seasons. A lot of these players never see the first team and fade into obscurity as a result of being stifled by the buying team. Buying then loaning out also brings in a steady income for these clubs.
The New York times reports clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea and Juventus would be hit hard if new rules come in with those particular clubs having 12 or more layers out on-loan at the minute. Chelsea have 27 players out on loan – an incredible amount.
It’s not clear how UEFA are going to curb this issue but they seem determined not to allow this to continue.
Simultaneously, UEFA are trying to stop agents from running riot in the game and getting obscene amounts of money. New measures would put three per cent for buying clubs and six for selling. Agents would also not be allowed to conduct both sides of the deal under new measures.
UEFA challenging clubs who are hoarding talent would be a blessing for clubs like Celtic. Yes, we get loan deals at the moment for players we can no longer afford. However, if these clubs aren’t able to snap all these young stars up then Celtic have a chance to go into the market and buy these guys on a permanent basis without fear of being gazumped by a richer club.
