UEFA Directive: Black Armbands & Minute Silence This Week

It has today been confirmed that Celtic will wear black armbands and hold a minute’s silence against Shakhtar Donetsk which is being implemented by UEFA [Daily Record].

The Hoops game at the weekend against Livingston was postponed along with every other competitive footballing fixture due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Celtic will also return to competitive action this weekend with a trip to take on St Mirren with there also likely to be some sort of tribute before the match.

Thankfully, for the travelling Hoops support their trip hasn’t been disrupted with other matches involving British teams being postponed or pushed back due to policing shortages.

Games in Scotland at the weekend will allow clubs to decide whether they mark the Monarch’s passing with any sort of tribute with there being multiple options to choose from if they so wish.

This is not the case when it comes to UK teams involvement in the Champions League as all clubs will have to observe moments of silence as well as wearing black armbands which is being implemented by UEFA

Had Celtic been taking on Shakhtar in Glasgow there would have been further rules to follow with the Champions League anthem and centre-pitch banner being prohibited.
